I’m not a physicist but I’m led to believe the Higgs Boson (what you are calling the “God particle”) gives particles mass. Without it, I believe that space (as in distance) couldn’t exist. Its discovery was important because it validates a particular theory of physics which has been held for a long time (I believe it is called the Standard Model of Particle Physics)

I would recommend asking this question maybe in the space zone or one of the general zones…

Afraid this one is out of the antibiotic zone! Magic bullet is about as close as we can come – suggest you follow Rob’s lead.

I don’t know – I used to be really keen on physics, but I haven’t studied it properly since I was 14.

But these people at CERN will know a lot more than me: http://home.web.cern.ch/about/updates/2013/05/basics-higgs-boson

If I had to guess, I’d say it has something to do with hidden dimensions. Then again, I research immunology so what do I know.

If you find out, please tell us!!

I have no idea! Physics was never really my strong point at school! Though that is a good question!
