To be a scientist all you have to do is have an idea then test it out – so all my life!

I enjoyed many subjects as a child, including science, but also literature, languages, acting, etc. But age 13 I had to choose which exams to take, and I chose to do more science exams. I wasn’t sure then that I wanted a job as a scientist, but that’s the way things have turned out.

Hi, At school I liked science and wanted to continue studying this at university. Just was a natural progression to work in the area I love and find interesting. Getting paid for something you like doing can’t be bad!

I was 23! When I started studying science at university I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. It was when I finished studying Biochemistry though that I decided I wanted to do some science research. Maybe not forever, but I did a small project for 6 months and I thought it was great! 2 years into my PhD and I still think it’s great 🙂

I had to decide many times. I will probably have to decide a few more times yet.

I decided at 16 to do science A-levels. I decided at 18 to do a science degree. I decided at 22 to do a PhD. I decided at 23 and 24 to stick with the PhD. I will have to decide again at 26 what to do next when I finish my PhD. Will I decide to still remain a scientist? I don’t know.
