Many people talk about their jobs a lot. Sometimes its hard to talk about your job if no one understands what you are talking about!

Also, many scientists have to work odd hours and fit their lives in around their experiments (especially biologists). This can lead to a harder social life. However, many people work shifts so I suppose it is similar to that.
