It has taken a while for scientists and policy makers to actually educate healthcare professionals about antibiotic resistance, how it arises, and how to avoid it!
Schools actually play quite an important role. Teaching in schools means that at least the next generation understand an issue and they often also talk to their parents about it. N this way, a large proportion of the population become familiar with an issue.
The media also plays an important role. Sometimes they do not report antibiotic resistance very well. They report superbugs and death and the apocalypse without reporting things like the simple changes in behaviour which stop resistance emerging.
If it really because a dire problem, I’m sure the government would run some sort of advertising campaign (like they already did with drunk driving etc.)
